The Foundry Student Accommodation is the perfect base for exploring everything Newcastle has to offer. The exciting nightlife is just one part of why the city is so popular with students; there is so much more to see and do during your studies.

Shieldfield is right on the edge of Newcastle City Centre and living at The Foundry means you can easily explore the bordering suburbs. Jesmond offers food and drink on Osborne Road as well as the relaxing haven of Jesmond Dene. Heaton has a great range of bargain restaurants and cafes ideal for students as well as Heaton Park for green spaces and sports facilities. The Ouseburn area of Newcastle is famous for chilled out bars and exciting music venues; a must-visit in the summer months. Head down to the Quayside and you’ll be greeted by the world famous sights of the Tyne Bridges, The Sage music centre and The Baltic art gallery.

Newcastle has a fascinating history and the evidence is everywhere – visit Roman Ruins at Hadrian’s Wall, the medieval Castle Keep in the City Centre, see Grade I listed Jacobean buildings, marvel at the Georgian architecture on Grey Street and Greys Monument or brave the Victoria Tunnels in the Ouseburn area – used as an air raid shelter in WWII.

Situated within easy reach of the Northumberland Countryside and the Coast, Newcastle is in the perfect location for exploring North East England by bus, train or car.

Where do we start?! Newcastle offers an impressive choice of cafes, restaurants and bars as well as hosting regular street food festivals welcoming a range of local and international vendors serving up all types of treats.

Independent local eateries mingle amongst well known chain restaurants and celebrity chefs in Newcastle and there’s something to suit all appetites and budgets, from bargain student pubs to classy cocktail bars and award winning restaurants.

The city’s China Town offers authentic Chinese and Japanese cuisine, the Quayside area offers food & drink with amazing views, the Gate offers a quick bite to eat before the cinema and there’s plenty more all over Newcastle and it’s suburbs. Don’t forget to head to Tynemouth for proper fish & chips on the beach!

Whether you’re into designer stores, independent boutiques or bargain high street shopping - Newcastle has you covered! The city boasts a fantastic selection of shops, leisure facilities, cafes, restaurants, bars, hair & beauty salons and everything else in between.

If that’s not enough for you, just hop on a bus to the Metrocentre – Europe’s largest shopping and leisure centre and home to the Odeon Cinema with IMAX screen and the NAMCO Funscape.

For food shopping and other essentials- there is both a Sainsbury’s local and a Tesco Express (both with free cash points) within just a few minutes walk of The Foundry. There are some larger and more specialist food stores in the city centre including HiYou Chinese supermarket and mmm… in the Grainger Market which sell food and drink from all over the world.
